8.21.24

This Sunday is our Family Sunday, where we will keep the kids in the service…have things a bit more kid friendly…and replace the sermon with a meal together.

Adults have always tended to see the kids as being an extra “bother” that needs to be managed at church. Extensive programs are put in place to keep their noise and interruption to a minimum for the “real” worshippers. But at City Church, we understand the importance of Jesus’ words to the crowds around him…

Then people brought little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them and pray for them. But the disciples rebuked them. Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”

This is the reason why we celebrate the cacophony of noises that our kids bring to our worship each week. Their rustling may be loud and distracting, but our kids are hearing the praises of Jesus being sung. They are seeing prayers of sorrow over sin being modeled. And they get to see that adults can get as excited about Jesus as they do about some ball game on tv.

So the next time the babies are crying the a little one loses it, smile that they are in worship hearing and seeing the worship of Jesus being modeled for their lives.
