Psalm 24
[One:] The earth is the LORD’s and all its fullness,
the world and all who dwell in it.
[All:] For he himself founded it upon the seas,
and established it upon the rivers.
Who shall ascend the mountain of the LORD,
and who shall stand in his holy place?
The one who has clean hands and a pure heart,
who does not lift up his soul in vain
or swear an oath with deceit.
He will carry blessing from the LORD,
and righteousness from the God of his salvation.
This is the generation of those who look to you,
who seek your face, O God of Jacob.
Lift up your heads, O gates,
and be lifted up, O ancient doors,
that the King of glory may come in!
Who is this King of glory?
The LORD, strong and mighty,
the LORD, mighty in battle!
Lift up your heads, O gates,
and be lifted up, O ancient doors,
that the King of glory may come in!
Who is he, this King of glory?
the LORD of hosts,
he is the King of glory!
Confession of Sin
Almighty Father,
you have rescued us in your Son
and gave us your own Spirit
to make us into one people,
one family, and one body.
Yet often we go on living for ourselves.
Our hearts are selfish, impatient, and proud,
looking to our own good instead of the good of others,
quick to anger when don’t have our way,
thinking more often of ourselves than we ought.
We confess, merciful God:
We have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed,
by what we have done, and by what we have left undone.
We have not loved you with our whole heart.
We have not loved our neighbors as ourselves.
We are truly sorry, and we humbly repent.
Unite us, O Christ, in your love and by your Spirit.
Teach us to live not for ourselves,
but for the love of God and the life of the world.
For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ,
have mercy on us and forgive us,
that we may delight in your will
and walk in your ways,
to the glory of your name.
Amen.
Assurance of Pardon
Hear, O child, the good news of what Jesus has done:
For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die—but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God. For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life.
(Romans 5:6-10)
This is our great hope,
for so great is our Father’s love
that when we were lost in sin,
Jesus didn’t wait for us to find our way,
but gave his own life to rescue us.
We are declared innocent by his blood,
and though sin yet clings to our hearts,
he has called us his friends.
And if Jesus died for his enemies,
how much more will save his friends,
being faithful to complete the work he began
until we are made perfectly whole.
So rest now, child, and rejoice,
in the perfect love of your savior Jesus.

Reading of Scripture
Acts 2:42-47
And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. And all who believed were together and had all things in common. And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.
This is the Word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.
